Most people know that I am not a fiction writer. I have tried my hand at things like NaNoWriMo only to essentially immediately give up. Which is not exactly good.
But here I am, and it seems to be actually be in progress.
What is it focused on? The sudden emergence of Weslin, Vermont on the world stage.
In 20XX, a family returns to their hometown of Weslin, Vermont, shocking the residents. As the family group assimilates with the locals, they also attempt to conceal their past and current activities, amidst the ongoing collapse of the world order, and hope to start anew.
WIP Summary for Project Quechee
I have written about characters named “Douglas Moseby” before, but this is the first time that the character has really been fleshed out and developed into a story that did not have many components like Sheldon Cooper of The Big Bang Theory. So I’m proud of myself on that end.
The summary of the story is essentially as follows: Douglas Moseby is/was an agent for a group of very powerful individuals who essentially rule the world and has infinite money at his disposal. However, he wants to settle down with his family and create something true for himself: a university. He brings his family and entourage to his hometown of Weslin, Vermont to establish it, but cannot do it immediately as his employers are trying to find and take care of him. So he hides out in the Inn and reunites with his former best friend and other residents.
All the while, both of their children are the same age and are falling in love, so need to grapple that as well
But I now want to talk about Weslin. The setting of the story.
If there is one thing that all of my stories have in common: is that they all take place in New England. Which is only fair given it’s the region I’ve grown up in. Perhaps the DC area will be more so, but New England is more interesting and has varied landscapes.
Weslin is supposed to be a stereotypical New England town to a certain degree. It takes inspiration from locales that I have visited in the past. Woodstock, Vermont and Camden, Maine are two towns that come to mind when I was developing this setting. But also Great Barrington, Massachusetts and Waterville Valley, New Hampshire. I wanted this town to be an idealized version of my dream New England town.
The primary road is not Main Street, but rather Market Street, which was intentionally done to make the town seem a bit off. On Market Street would be shops and apartments. But the buildings are to be similar to what would appear in Main Street USA in Walt Disney World. But a bit more aged, and not as touristy. This is a tourist destination, but not so much that it’s being flocked to it.
Speaking of tourism, there is an unnamed Ski Area mentioned to be nearby, but because the story takes place in the summer, it is not talked about, and tourists in Weslin are there for the hikes and scenic views.
I mentioned above that the Moseby Family ends up staying in the Inn at Weslin. The Inn is a mix of the Woodstock Inn and Green Mountain Inn. Both are lovely establishments that I recommend staying at.
Of course, there will also be dairy farms, because no idealized New England town is complete without them.

There is no estimated date that this story will be published, but it will likely be serialized, and published here first before going elsewhere.
We’ll see what happens next.
Shabbat Shalom.
